Happy Holidays

CoachGino_HappyHolidays2010

A year of soccer has come to an end, a lot of great coaching moments are on my mind and I can’t wait until we start up again.   A nice and deserving break we all get for the holidays, enjoy your time off with your friends and family, be safe and get excited for 2011.  Thank you parents for your continued trust, support and friendship.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my players, parents and friends.

Too Much Rain

Too Much Rain

Well .. this week went by & my teams had no practice at all.  All the rain forced the city to close the fields & this saturday my teams will face their opponents with little preparation.  I know many other teams faced the same situation & we will be in for an interesting weekend of soccer for sure.  Thankfully the fields are open for our home games .. so we don’t have to reschedule those games.

So .. what can the kids do during a rainy week with no place to workout?  I know many moms & dads have converted their garages into a gym while trying to save money in this down economy.  so the garage could be an option to do some exercises, it wont replace the weekly soccer practices .. but at least will help keep the body moving.

Play dates are very attractive to kids .. so parents could call each other & do a futsal play date at a rec center or school gym (indoors).  That will get the kids off the coach & playing with a soccer ball.  If the play date includes 2 or more kids .. than that will be very enjoyable for the kids & doing this at least 1 day a week will help keep their soccer endurance up.

My GU9 Team @ City Hall

GU9 Team @ City Hall

Today I had a great day .. my little girls soccer team (Oceanside Breakers GU9 |2010 squad) was awarded a certificate of recognition by the Mayor of Oceanside “Jim Wood”. I have taken my teams to city council many times before, but this time seemed more enjoyable as I had my speech pretty well prepared without much preparation at all. Well, what I mean is that I’ve done it a few times now & it’s getting easier to speak in front of city council & say the right things in thanking everyone that helps the local community.

I also made sure to advise my assistant coach & friend “Allan Teta” to speak after me .. I told him to make sure he covers on anything I might have missed & ofcourse I forgot to thank the parents for all the sacrifice .. dooh.
It was a good time & between us two we thanked all the important folks that came to mind.

I was also happy to council members Esther Sanchez, Jack Feller & Jerry Kern, they are all very dedicated to supporting youth sporting activities in the community & it was nice to say hi & give them a hug. I also saw a good friend & another great supporter Margery Pierce .. great time indeed & topped it off with a team dinner at the Pit Stop Dinner in Oceanside (off El Camino Real & Mission Ave).
